Administrative detainee Khaled Abdullah dies in Israeli prison

March 3, 2025 at 3:30 pm

40-year-old Palestinian Khaled Mahmoud Qassem Abdullah from Jenin refugee camp died in Israel’s Megiddo Prison on 3 March 2025 due to the harsh detention conditions

A 40-year-old Palestinian has died while being held as an administrative detainee in Israel’s notorious jails, Palestinian rights groups announced today according to the Palestinian Information Centre.

In a statement, the Detainees and Ex-detainees Affairs Commission and Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) said Khaled Abdullah had been held captive in Israeli jails under the illegal system of administrative detention – without charge or trial – since 9 November 2023 and died in Megiddo Prison on 23 February 2025 as a result of the systematic Israeli crimes.

Hamas warned the “criminal Israeli occupation against continuing its heinous crimes against Palestinian prisoners in its prisons.”

In a statement the movement said Abdullah’s death confirms once again the systematic crimes committed against Palestinians in Israeli jails.

It added that Abdullah’s martyrdom, and the torture and abuse he was subjected to during his detention, “proves the Israeli occupation’s brutal treatment of our prisoners, including depriving them of the most basic human rights, with the continuation of the policy of medical neglect, which means the slow killing of those prisoners.”

Hamas warned against the continuation of the Israeli criminal policy against prisoners, renewing its call to all free people in the world and human rights and legal bodies to pressure Israel and hold it accountable for its crimes against the Palestinian people, and to support the prisoners in light of the tragic circumstances they are exposed to.

A married father of four, Abdullah was from Jenin refugee camp. He has two brothers who are also being held as administrative detainees: Shadi and Iyad Abdullah. According to his family, he was not suffering from any health problems before his arrest.

The Commission and PPS stated that Abdullah is the third detainee whose death has been announced within a week, bringing the number of Palestinian prisoners and detainees who have died in the Israeli occupation’s prisons since the beginning of the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza in October 2023 to 61, including at least 40 from Gaza.
