The Israeli Public Prosecution yesterday charged a resident of the southern city of Be’er Sheva of spying for Iran.
“Following a joint investigation by the Israeli Defence Forces in Lahav 433 and the Shin Bet, a Be’er Sheva resident was arrested on suspicion of initiating contact with intelligence elements in the Iranian regime and offering to sell information, among other things, claiming that he had access to the nuclear research complex,” a joint statement by the Shin Bet and Israel Police said.
According to the statement, Doron Buchovze admitted, during the investigation, to initiating contact with Iranian intelligence elements several months ago and of carrying out security missions at their direction.
He has reportedly confessed to photographing “sensitive” facilities and transmitting information for “a fee”.
The statement added that Buchovze was fully aware that he was in contact with an Iranian agent who is likely to target Israel’s security.
The statement warned “citizens and residents of Israel against contacting foreign entities from enemy countries or unknown entities, and especially against carrying out missions for these entities in exchange for money or for any other reason.”
The statement added that “these entities, including Iranian intelligence and terrorist entities, continue to recruit and employ Israelis to carry out security, terrorist and espionage missions in Israel. These entities are trying to recruit Israelis through social media.”
