A delegation from the Latin-Palestinian Forum made an official visit to the Brazilian capital, Brasilia, where they met with several parliamentarians, including members of the Workers’ Party (PT) and the Socialism and Liberty Party (PSOL). Discussions focused on strengthening solidarity and coordinating parliamentary efforts in the region.
The delegation was composed of Mohamad El-Kadri, president of the Latin-Palestinian Forum; Ahmad Hweidi, the body’s administrative director; and Abdullah Omar, the communications director. During the meetings, the delegation emphasised the importance of unifying parliamentary positions across Latin America to support the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, particularly in the face of increasing international challenges. Additionally, preparations for an international conference of Latin American parliamentarians were discussed, aiming to coordinate political and diplomatic actions in defence of Palestine and to highlight the longstanding violations suffered by the Palestinian people, now further aggravated by the ongoing genocide.
The parliamentarians reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause and defending the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state. They also expressed interest in actively participating in the planned parliamentary conference, emphasising the need to strengthen cooperation among legislators to advocate for Palestine on the international stage.
This visit comes at a time of increased attention on the Palestinian cause in Latin America, with various progressive parties strengthening their positions in support of Palestine. Additionally, there has been a growing call for intensified diplomatic and parliamentary efforts to uphold the rights of the Palestinian people in international forums.
