Tunisian President Kais Saied has decided not to attend the emergency Arab summit scheduled to be held in Cairo today. Saied assigned Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti to represent the Tunisian delegation in the emergency Arab Summit.

A statement by the Tunisian Foreign Ministry confirmed that on this occasion minister Nafti will renew Tunisia’s firm position in support of the rights of the Palestinian people, foremost of which is the establishment of an independent, sovereign state on the entire land of Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital.

This summit will be dedicated to discussing the latest developments in the Palestinian territories, in light of the attacks that the Palestinians are being subjected to in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank and attempts to displace and expel them from their land. The aim is to reach a unified Arab position that is in solidarity with them and that supports and backs the Palestinian people in their struggle to regain their legitimate and inalienable rights.

On Sunday, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced that he would not personally participate in the emergency Arab summit hosted by Egypt.

The president assigned the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, to represent Algeria.

The Algerian News Agency reported that this decision was made due to the differences and shortcomings that marred the preparatory process for this summit, as this process was monopolised by a limited and narrow group of Arab countries that dominated the preparation of the outcomes of the upcoming summit in Cairo without the slightest coordination with the rest of the Arab countries concerned with the Palestinian issue.

Cairo will host an emergency Arab summit on Tuesday, with the aim of “formulating a strong Arab position on the Palestinian issue in general and presenting a general Arab proposal that counters the American proposal to displace the Palestinians of Gaza.”

The meeting comes weeks after a ‘mini Arab summit’ was held in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, where Gulf states met with the heads of Jordan and Egypt to discuss the situation in Palestine.
