Lebanese President Joseph Aoun yesterday affirmed that Beirut will not abandon its land which has been occupied by Israel and will not leave its prisoners in Israeli jails, Anadolu reported.

Speaking at the emergency Arab summit held in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, to discuss developments in the Palestinian issue, particularly in Gaza, Aoun said: “The wars of others in Lebanon have taught me that the Arab dimension of the Palestinian cause requires us all to be strong so that Palestine remains strong.”

He added: “When Beirut is occupied, Damascus is destroyed, Amman is threatened, Baghdad suffers, or Sanaa falls, no one can claim that this is in support of Palestine.”

Aoun stressed the importance of Arab countries being strong through stability, prosperity, peace, openness, development and progress, describing this as the best path to supporting Palestine.

Referring to the situation in Lebanon, he stated: “In my country, just as in Palestine, there is still land occupied by Israel and Lebanese prisoners in its jails. We will not abandon our land, nor will we forget or leave our prisoners.”
