The head of the operations directorate in the Israeli occupation army, Major General Oded Basiuk, has submitted his resignation to the chief of staff, with the latter requesting that Basiuk remain in his position due to the operational challenges facing Israel.

According to Anadolu, which cited the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, Basiuk is the third highest ranking officer in the Israeli occupation army after Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir and his deputy. The report noted that his resignation was expected just two days before the replacement of outgoing Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, who also resigned, with Eyal Zamir appointed as his successor.

The newspaper stated that Basiuk had informed the new chief of staff of his intention to retire during a meeting, and his request was approved. However, he was asked to remain in his position for the coming months due to ongoing operational challenges.

According to Yedioth Ahronoth, Basiuk’s resignation resembles that of other Israeli army commanders who stepped down following the failures of 7 October, near the end of their expected terms. This includes the former commander of the Gaza division, Brigadier General Avi Rosenfeld.
