The Central Court of Haifa, northern Israel, issued a four-and-a-half-year prison sentence against Palestinian citizen of Israel, Tariq Daour from the city of Acre, on charges of “collaborating with a Hamas element”. Daour was arrested in January last year by Special Forces.
His lawyer told Al-Jarmaq News that the court found Daour guilty of dealing with a foreign agent who is a member of the Hamas movement, and that communication between them took place in September 2023 before the outbreak of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza.
According to the lawyer, although the two maintained contact between November and January, the content was limited to question marks and exclamation marks only.
“According to the indictment, cooperation with Hamas was offered to Tariq, including carrying out tasks and recruiting people, but the only thing he agreed to, according to the indictment, was obtaining a pistol for his personal use. He was convicted on this basis after amending the indictment terms.”
He said the defence will appeal to reduce the sentence.
“I believe this case does not require such a sentence, especially since Tariq refused to cooperate with Hamas.”
