The Syrian Civil Defence, famously known as the White Helmets, said today that its firefighters had extinguished 20 forest fires in Latakia and Tartus provinces in northern Syria.

The organisation said the flames were put out on the Deir Hanna road in the Qardaha countryside of Latakia province and had lasted for nearly seven hours.

The firefighting teams also managed to extinguish all forest fires that erupted in the countryside of Latakia and Tartus, it added.

The cause of the fires was not yet clear.
