German gov't fires lawyer over Gaza views

German lawyer Melanie Schweizer has been dismissed from her position at a federal ministry after publicly speaking out about the situation in Gaza. 'I do not regret speaking out,' @schweizer.mel tells MEMO's Jehan Alfarra @withlove.jehan, asserting that her duty as a German citizen and lawyer compels her to uphold constitutional values and historical responsibility. Schweizer denounced her dismissal as a violation of freedom of expression and political rights. She also said it clashed with the values upheld by today's commemorations of the European Day of the Righteous, which honours those who stood up for justice when it was unpopular and unsafe to do so.
