Syrian security authorities have seized “various weapons and ammunition” in a hideout used by forces loyal to deposed former leader Bashar Al-Assad, in the Kafr Abd area in Homs’ northern countryside, in central Syria, the interior minister said yesterday according to Anadolu.

“After searching and investigating, the General Security Forces in the Kafr Abd area seized a warehouse containing weapons and mortar ammunition of various calibers,” the official news agency SANA said.

The minister added that the security forces “confiscated the ammunition and took the necessary legal measures,” without giving further details.

Earlier on Saturday, the Ministry of the Interior announced the arrest of a leader of the National Defence Groups of the ousted regime in Homs Governorate, whom it said is “involved in committing several massacres against civilians.” No further details were given

The ministry explained that the arrests come within the policy of “pursuing ousted regime remnants involved in committing crimes against civilians and bringing them to justice.”

Since Assad’s fall, the Military Operations Administration has opened centres for ousted regime elements to hand over their weapons and pursued those who refused to comply voluntarily.
