Germany again urges Israel to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza

German Foreign Ministry spokesperson Kathrin Deschauer said yesterday that the German government is again calling on Israel to immediately lift all restrictions on the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Deschauer stressed that cutting off electricity and water supplies to Gaza is unacceptable and does not align with Israel’s obligations under international law. She also emphasised that ensuring the electricity supply in Gaza is essential for operating the water desalination plant in Khan Younis.

The spokesperson asserted further that blocking humanitarian aid cannot be considered a legitimate means of pressure during negotiations.

The first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, which lasted 42 days, ended at the beginning of March. However, Israel has refused to move on to the second phase because it doesn’t want to withdraw its troops from Gaza and end the war.

Following the conclusion of the first phase of the ceasefire, Israel once again closed all border crossings to prevent humanitarian aid from entering Gaza. This weaponisation of starvation is a tool to put pressure on Hamas to force it to accept Israeli demands.
