Families of Syrians who disappeared during the country’s 14-year civil war gathered in the city of Daraa yesterday to urge the interim government not to abandon efforts to find their loved ones.
According to United Nations’ 2021 estimates, more than 130,000 Syrians were kidnapped and disappeared during the war, with many of them held by the ousted President Bashar Al-Assad’s intelligence bodies, opposition fighters and Daesh.
The Syria Campaign, an advocacy organisation, says that around 112,000 individuals remain missing.
