Israeli occupation soldiers shot dead a young Bedouin man and seriously wounded another on the Egyptian border Saturday and Sunday, Israel’s Haaretz newspaper reported.

According to the paper, the army said the two suspects were inside a car attempting to use a drone for smuggling.

While the Israeli occupation army’s spokesperson did not issue a statement on the incident, the Israeli army acknowledged that the two suspects were unarmed, but said they “moved toward the forces and posed a threat”.

Last November, Israeli soldiers shot dead Yassin Abu Ruis, 18, from the village of Bir Hadaj, south of the settlement of Bnei Netzarim.

At the time they said that “soldiers suspected Abu Ruis was being involved in cross-border smuggling” claiming that he was “known to the police for criminal activity related to arms trafficking.”

In September, Israeli soldiers shot another Bedouin youth, Jumaa Al-Waj, 20, from Bir Hadaj near the Egyptian border, while he was driving a vehicle in the Nahal Harsha area with two other youths.

The Israeli military said at the time that the troops felt “threatened” because he had approached them at high speed. “The troops were patrolling the Egyptian border and identified several suspects speeding toward them. The soldiers threw a stun grenade to push them away and fired into the air. When the vehicle did not stop, they opened fire to eliminate the threat.”
