Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Harris has described the scenes emerging from Gaza as horrific, stating that the latest Israeli air strikes and ground offensive have inflicted further suffering on civilians, in violation of the ceasefire agreement.
In a statement issued on X yesterday, Harris said: “We have witnessed appalling scenes from Gaza again today.”
He stressed the need to end the aggression, calling for a return to talks to implement the ceasefire agreement and fulfil all commitments.
“The international community cannot accept this step backwards. We need an urgent end to hostilities,” he stressed.
The Irish minister also called for the immediate resumption of humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza and the protection of UN relief workers and other humanitarian personnel.
Harris condemned the targeting of UN facilities, describing it as a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and emphasising that the international community cannot accept or turn a blind eye to such actions.
Israel resumed its assault on Gaza in the early hours of Tuesday, with the courtyard of Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza City filling with the bodies of children and women after they were targeted by air strikes while sleeping in their shelters and in displacement tents in the north of the territory.
Washington said it had been informed of Israel’s actions ahead of the start of the bombing campaign.
