Some seven per cent o fGaza’s population of 2.3 million Palestinians have been killed or injured as a result of Israel’s genocidal assault on the enclave since October 2023, the Ministry of Health announced yesterday.

Munir al-Bursh, the ministry’s director general, stated: “Approximately seven per cent of Gaza’s population has fallen victim to genocide, either through death or injury.”

He added that more than 25,000 of the injured require long-term treatment and rehabilitation, noting that amputation cases have reached approximately 4,700, including 850 children.

Al-Bursh warned of a further deterioration in the situation due to “the complete blockade imposed by Israeli forces, affecting both healthcare and humanitarian aid.”

He stressed that hospitals are unable to cope with the large number of casualties because they lack essential medical supplies and equipment, especially as Israeli attacks continue to escalate.

Since 2 March, Israel has closed Gaza’s border crossings to humanitarian, medical, and relief aid, as well as commercial goods, worsening the humanitarian crisis in the Strip.

Israel has also barred the entry of fuel used to operate generators which provide power to emergency departments in hospitals.

The Government Media Office has repeatedly warned that the closure of border crossings is putting the already decimated hospitals at risk. Last week, it announced that Gaza had entered the first stages of famine.
