Egypt made a new proposal last week aimed at restoring the Gaza ceasefire deal, security sources told Reuters today.

The proposal suggested Hamas released five Israeli captives each week, while Israel would start implementing the second phase of the ceasefire deal after the first week.

Reports reveal that the US and Hamas have agreed to the terms, but Israel had not yet responded.

The sources said Egypt’s proposal also includes a timeline for the release of all captives in exchange for a timeline for Israel’s full withdrawal from Gaza, backed by US guarantees.

Israel launched a surprise aerial campaign on Gaza on Tuesday, killing more than 400 Palestinians on that day – making it the most deadly day since the occupation state launched its genocidal bombing of the enclave in October 2023. The move shattered a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement that took hold in January.

More than 50,000 Palestinians have been killed, mostly women and children, and more than 113,200 injured in a brutal Israeli military onslaught on Gaza since October 2023.
