The ministerial committee of the Arab-Islamic Contact Group, chaired by Saudi Arabia, held a meeting in Cairo yesterday with the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, to discuss mechanisms for implementing the Gaza reconstruction plan.

According to media reports, the discussions focused on accelerating the next phases of the Gaza ceasefire agreement and ensuring its full implementation. The meeting also addressed ways to resume humanitarian aid and alleviate the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

The committee included the foreign ministers of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, Turkiye, Indonesia and Palestine, along with the Secretary-General of the Arab League and the Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

During a press conference, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty emphasised the importance of adhering to the Gaza ceasefire agreement and progressing towards its second phase. He also stressed the need for a political horizon that allows Palestinians the opportunity to establish their state.

Abdelatty explained that the Arab plan includes forming a non-factional committee to manage Gaza for six months, after which the Palestinian Authority would assume governance responsibilities.
