Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir’s accusations against the head of the country’s intelligence agency are “violent and dangerous incitement”, former Prime Minister Yair Lapid said yesterday.

“The National Security Offender who dares to speak like this about the head of the Shin Bet is proof that the Israeli government has lost all its inhibitions,” Lapid said.

He added, “a prime minister in a civilised country would have removed him from office and not crawled to him to come back and save his government.”

This comes as Israeli media reports that Shin Bet carried out a covert probe into the possible infiltration of extreme-right elements into the Israel Police following suspected political meddling in the force by Ben-Gvir’s office.
