Israeli occupation forces (IOF) released five Palestinian detainees from Gaza Strip yesterday evening after they were held for several months during incursions and land invasions into the Strip, the Palestinian Information Centre reported.

Media sources said occupation forces set the five detainees free at the Kerem Abu Salem (Karm Abu Salem) crossing, south of the Gaza Strip, before they were transferred to Gaza European Hospital, east of Khan Yunis, for treatment.

Since the beginning of the Israeli genocidal war on 7 October 2023, the Israeli occupation army has been holding about 2,500 prisoners from the Gaza Strip in Israeli prisons, according to the head of the Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission, Qadura Fares. However the number of detainees is expected to be higher as many Palestinians remain missing, either having been detained by Israel or trapped under the rubble of their destroyed homes and shelters.
