Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, arrived in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Friday, as Sudanese forces continue to impose their control over areas of the country and achieve victories over the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Al-Burhan was received at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah by Mecca Region Governor Prince Saud Bin Mishal Al-Saud and Ali Bin Mohammed Al-Qarni, deputy mayor of Jeddah.

Among those receiving him were the Saudi Ambassador to Sudan Ali Bin Hassan Jaafar and the Sudanese Ambassador to the Kingdom Dafallah Al-Haj.

SPA did not provide further details about Al-Burhan’s visit, but the visit came two days after he announced regaining complete control from the RSF of the capital, Khartoum. Observers expect the Gulf states, particularly Saudi Arabia, to contribute to the efforts to restore stability through economic support that could help Sudan rebuild its infrastructure and achieve financial stability, alleviating the suffering of the Sudanese people.

The visit also comes a day after Al-Burhan received a Saudi delegation, including officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief), the first Arab delegation to visit since the Sudanese army regained control of the capital, Khartoum.

During the meeting, Al-Burhan praised Saudi Arabia’s support for the Sudanese people and Sudan’s unity, sovereignty and stability. He also expressed appreciation for the Saudi leadership’s support for his country and its provision of humanitarian aid and assistance, according to Sudan News Agency.
