A protest took place in the Syrian capital, Damascus, on Friday against the Israeli attacks on the town of Koya in the southern Daraa province.
Participants in the protest held up signs in Arabic and English in Umayyad Square in central Damascus, condemning the Israeli aggression and stressing that Syrian blood is precious.
In an interview with Anadolu Agency, Dima Moussa, one of the participants in the protest, said she condemned the Israeli attacks on Syria, which have increased in intensity in recent months.
Moussa called on the international community to take urgent action against the Israeli occupation, noting: “It’s clear that the current reactions are insufficient, and Israel will continue to occupy more lands in neighbouring countries and spread chaos in the region.”
On Tuesday, seven Syrian civilians were killed in Israeli artillery and drone shelling of the town of Koya, northwest of Daraa province.
Since 1967, Israel has occupied most of the Syrian Golan Heights. Taking advantage of the new situation in the country following the fall of Bashar Al-Assad’s regime, Israel occupied the demilitarised Syrian buffer zone and declared the collapse of the 1974 disengagement agreement between the two sides.
Israel has been launching almost daily airstrikes on Syria for months, killing civilians and destroying Syrian military sites, vehicles and ammunition, even though the country’s new administration has not threatened Tel Aviv in any form.
Syrian factions took control of the country on 8 December, ending 61 years of the violent Baath Party regime and 53 years of Al-Assad family rule.
