Egypt yesterday warned against attempts to violate religious sanctities in occupied Jerusalem, condemning the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israel’s far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.

Earlier yesterday, Ben-Gvir entered Al-Aqsa Mosque under heavy police protection.

In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said that Egypt denounces and condemns the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israel’s national security minister, under police protection, “in an unacceptable provocative escalation that ignites the feelings of Muslims worldwide.”

The ministry warned against any attempts to “tamper with religious sanctities” in Jerusalem.

It further described any Israeli actions at Al-Aqsa Mosque as “a blatant violation of international law and a major source of instability in the region.”

The statement stressed that all Israeli measures in Al-Aqsa Mosque are “illegal and illegitimate.”

The ministry also warned that the international community’s failure to take deterrent measures to halt Israeli provocations could “trigger a widespread wave of anger, potentially leading to an explosion of tensions in the Middle East.”

Furthermore, it cautioned against the continued repercussions of such actions on “international peace and security.”
