Germany has denied Israeli claims that hundreds of Gaza residents were airlifted to its territory, rejecting reports suggesting the move was part of a plan proposed by US President Donald Trump.
Israel’s Interior Ministry announced that hundreds of Palestinians from Gaza had been transported by air from Ramon Airport, in southern Israel, to Germany. However, Berlin dismissed the claim, adding that 19 German nationals and their families had returned from Gaza.
The denial followed an earlier statement by Israel’s Interior Ministry, which asserted that hundreds of Gazans had been airlifted from Ramon Airport to the German city of Leipzig on Tuesday, accompanied by German diplomats.
The ministry also noted that Interior Minister Moshe Arbel visited the airport “to examine the process of voluntary departure for Gaza residents to a third country.”
The Israeli cabinet recently approved the establishment of a new body tasked with promoting the “voluntary departure” of Palestinians from Gaza, aligning with Trump’s previous proposal to displace Palestinians from the enclave to make way for the “Riviera of the Middle East”.
