Liberman launches fierce attack: Katz should be sacked immediately

Former Israeli Defence Minister Avigdor Liberman has launched a fierce attack on current Defence Minister Israel Katz, accusing him of harming the Israeli military and undermining Israel’s efforts on the international stage, and calling for his immediate dismissal.

In an interview with 103FM radio, Liberman said Katz was not acting as a minister concerned with security, but was putting his political interests and calculations within the Likud party ahead of security considerations. He also criticised what he described as a lack of political support for the military chief of staff.

“He should have been sacked this morning,” Liberman said, accusing Katz of serving his personal interests rather than Israel’s security interests.

Liberman said the current government’s policies were harming soldiers and Israel’s security, stressing that equal sharing of the burden of military service was essential to achieving victory and economic growth. He called for all government funding and support for those evading military service to be halted.

Meanwhile, the Likud party announced that Israel Katz would be placed directly on the party’s list for the next election, alongside ministers Gideon Sa’ar and Haim Katz, without having to take part in primary elections.
