An Italian NGO rescued some 50 migrants from a boat in international waters on Monday, while seven people died during the crossing, according to local media reports.
The Life Support search-and-rescue vessel, operated by the Italian humanitarian NGO Emergency, rescued 50 people — 45 men and five women, Italian news agency ANSA reported.
The NGO said seven migrants died during the crossing and that two people were in serious condition due to suffocation.
The migrants from Somalia and Egypt, departed from Zuwarah, Libya, on Sunday, it added.
