Iran threatens to target bases in European countries, names Bulgaria

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei has threatened to target the sources of any attack on Iran, including military bases and facilities belonging to European countries if they are used in military operations against his country.

At a press conference on Monday, Baghaei said providing bases or equipment to attackers amounted to “participation in the crime” against Iran.

Baghaei said Iran had previously announced that it would target “the origin and source of any act of aggression” against it, specifically naming Bulgaria. He said Iran had detected several aircraft leaving Bulgarian territory to refuel.

The Iranian spokesman said Bulgaria allowing its territory to be used by these aircraft amounted to supporting the military attack being carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran. He added that Tehran expected other countries that had made their bases and equipment available to the attackers to take the necessary measures.

“No country should be concerned about Iran unless it puts its capabilities at the disposal of the aggressor parties to carry out illegal acts,” Baghaei said.

He added that, from Tehran’s perspective, international law gives Iran the “legitimate right” to target the source and origin of any act of aggression, stressing that his country would not hesitate to defend its security and interests.
