Iran’s Revolutionary Guard says Tehran prepared for US “economic war”

Iran has prepared measures to counter the effects of intensified US economic pressure and is ready to respond to various forms of “hostile action,” Revolutionary Guard spokesman Hossein Mohebi said.

Mohebi’s remarks came in response to US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a new economic campaign against Iran.

“Economic warfare is one of the enemy’s tactics, and we have scenarios to counter the negative effects of this war,” Mohebi said, arguing that Washington has pursued economic pressure against Iran for decades.

The Revolutionary Guard spokesman maintained that Iran continues to conduct economic relations with other countries and said Tehran was not concerned about the potential consequences of the latest US measures.

He also claimed that Washington had intensified economic pressure after failing to achieve its objectives through military action.

Trump, meanwhile, described the new measures as the toughest economic action ever imposed on a country, portraying the campaign as an effort to subject Iran to unprecedented economic isolation.

The US president also warned that countries providing support to Tehran could face significant economic consequences, potentially expanding the impact of the measures beyond Iran itself.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi rejected the effectiveness of the new sanctions, saying on Friday that they would fail as previous rounds of US economic restrictions had done.
