Saudi crown prince, Oman’s sultan discuss efforts to stabilize region

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq discussed efforts Tuesday to strengthen regional security and stability during a meeting in Jeddah, the Saudi state news agency SPA reported.

The two leaders also reviewed bilateral relations and opportunities to expand cooperation across various fields, SPA said.

Discussions also dwelt on regional developments and efforts to preserve security and stability, the same source said.

The meeting came as Oman, Qatar and Pakistan work to ease regional tensions and bring Iran and the US back to negotiations to reach a lasting end to their war after an initial agreement reached in June stalled.

Regional tensions escalated when the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran in February, with Tehran retaliating with strikes targeting Gulf countries that host US military assets.

Tehran and Washington signed a 14-point memorandum of understanding in June aimed at ending their war, but the interim deal quickly faltered.
