Lebanese army: Nearly 7,700 Israeli violations since framework agreement

The Lebanese army said on Wednesday it had recorded nearly 7,700 Israeli violations since a framework agreement was signed on 26 June, warning that continued violations threatened existing understandings and arrangements.

In a statement, the army command said Israel had stepped up attacks on residential areas and institutions in recent days, killing and wounding large numbers of people.

The latest incident killed at least 12 people, including women and children, in what the army described as a massacre in the town of Kafr Rumman in the Nabatieh district.

Israeli attacks have intensified in several areas of southern Lebanon in recent days, particularly around Nabatieh, amid continued air strikes and artillery shelling.

The escalation comes as preparations are under way for a new round of talks, expected to be held in the Italian capital Rome this month under US sponsorship. Lebanon has not yet officially announced a date for the talks.

The army said the continuation and escalation of the attacks, alongside what it described as “brutal” demolition and explosions in the south, left no doubt about Israel’s “aggressive intentions”.

It said the actions violate international law, threaten existing understandings and arrangements, hinder the army’s efforts to establish stability, and represent a blatant violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and security.
